McNasty Does McCool | Mark McNairy’s Design InstinctSOURCE Need Supply Co. | Duncan Wolfe
Mark McNairy is an American menswear designer born and bred in North Carolina who first fell in love with menswear while thrifting in his southern hometown.
Inspired by classic suiting and Brooks Brothers, McNairy launched his eponymous line in 2008 with a collection of classic men’s shoes handcrafted in Northamptonshire, UK. His line, Mark McNairy New Amsterdam, has since evolved into a full collection with idiosyncratic flourishes for a fashion-forward and edgy customer rooted in an appreciation for classical menswear.
McNairy , known by his nickname “McNasty,” pays homage to his Southern upbringing with collections anchored in prep styling. From 2005 to 2012, he was the creative director of Ivy League style-inspired menswear line J.Press. Hired to reinvigorate the classic men’s line, he set out to reposition the 100 year old brand to a younger, hipper audience. McNairy’s designs infuse classic tailoring with ironic details that prove his tongue is firmly implanted in cheek, which has amassed him a cult following including the likes of Cam’ron, Pharrell, and Pusha T.
