A vocalist and songwriter, Wainwright's work spans rock, opera, theatre, dance and film. He has released six studio albums and two live LPs. He will become the first solo artist to take up residency at the Royal Opera House when he appears there from 18-23 July.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
Being dressed up as a pink Easter bunny as a small child in order to distribute chocolate eggs to other somewhat volatile kids.

Jewellery for my mother, of course.

Americans falling for empty, stupid slogans that have no basis in reality.

My cheeks explode when I smile. That's why I have to look so nonplussed.

The Koch brothers, I say it's one person because they are one monster with two heads.
What is the worst job you've done?Cleaning a popcorn machine at a movie theatre.
What was the best kiss of your life?
When I was 18 I kissed a boy called Danny – I was instantly and for ever devastated.
What has been your biggest disappointment?
Not getting proper dance lessons as a young person. I was a serious flamer.

My mother's untimely death.

At that movie Bridesmaids.
